Tires are the basic components of your car or truck, they provide traction, handling, and stability. Most vehicles come with standard tires that are designed to meet specific requirements, yet, some tire sizes can cause problems and eventually might affect your car valuation in Dubai.
For example, larger-size tires can increase rolling resistance, reduce gas mileage, and affect suspension performance, while smaller-size tires increase gas mileage.
That’s why you should be careful when buying your new set of tires, because they play a significant role in the safety of your vehicle as well as its performance, not to mention that they also affect your fuel consumption, so it is important to choose them wisely.
And since you should replace your car tires every three or four years, you should learn more about their types, which one suits your car, the weather of your town or city, and so on.
So what are the types of tires you should consider? Let’s figure it out.
Usually, car tires are split into three main types which are winter, summer, and all-season tires, but there are of course much more options, like mud tires for example.
Winter Tires
These are recommended during cold weather conditions and the winter season. Winter tires usually provide much traction and stability. They are mainly suited to driving on icy, snowy, and wet roads at low speeds.
Winter tires are ideal for snowy conditions, have a large number of grooves, and are optimized to be flexible when temperatures drop to provide safety.
Summer Tires
Summer tires or standard tires are designed to handle high speeds and performance and offer traction and stability even on wet roads, but they aren’t designed for cold weather though. Summer tires are fuel-efficient.
All-Season Tires
People tend to buy all-season tires because it saves them money rather than buying a whole new set for every season. All-season tires perform well but are by no means THAT great.
If you live in a place where the weather is kind of moderate all the year long, all-season tires can do the job pretty much, but if you live in a hot place, like UAE, where it’s really hot almost all the year long, you need to get tires that can handle the heat of the sun and the hot paved roads, not to mention the sand if you like to experience driving in the desert.
All-season tires come in S and T speeds and are generally suitable for SUVs and regular cars.
There are also high-quality all-season tires, which are called performance all-season tires. They don’t wear out quickly, come in H and V speeds and have better cornering grip than the S and T.
How to Choose the Size?
Look for the owner’s manual or the sign on the driver’s door, you’ll find recommendations for tire size, and they will look something like this: P225/70R16 91S
The P refers to the car’s type.
225 is the width of the tire.
70 is the aspect ratio.
R stands for construction.
16 is the RIM diameter.
91 is the load index (how much weight a tire can withstand).
The S is the maximum speed.
Tires come in many different patterns and prints to suit every car owner’s needs. Every size and type of tire has its performance pros and cons, and safety. Choose what suits your specifications depending on the vehicle’s wheelbase length, speed, weather conditions, and driving style.
Remember that when you invest in some high-quality set of tires and maintain the good condition of your car, it will be much easier for you to sell the car in Dubai, and you’ll get a pretty penny!
